VOICE AND REMOTE WORK

VOICE AND REMOTE WORK

Remote work

The Covid-19 crisis has only accelerated the shift to remote work. Video conferencing is now ubiquitous.

Some competitive contests, fundraising pitches, and business negotiations are now conducted exclusively online.

This requires specific vocal and postural best practices, and above all, an understanding of why we tend to be less assertive in a virtual environment.

These best practices, beyond improving how clearly you are understood, also help preserve your vocal health. You will no longer end the day with a sore throat. This training day is absolutely essential given the evolution of our increasingly interconnected societies, enabling fully controlled communication in a remote setting.

Accessibility: no logistical constraints.

Who is it for?

For anyone who needs to lead meetings, speak, or negotiate via video conference.

This training is conducted exclusively online to allow immediate application of the best practices and tools provided.

No prerequisites are required.

Sessions can be individual or group-based depending on needs.

Duration:

A one-day training or two sessions of three hours each (consecutive or not) covering multiple stages:

  • Presenting the challenges of voice and posture in remote communication
  • Explaining the anatomy of the voice, the oro-phonatory loop, and the exact reasons why remote communication generates fatigue
  • Teaching vocal and public speaking best practices to preserve vocal health and prevent musculoskeletal disorders caused by prolonged sitting

Learning objectives:

  • Develop practical tools to compensate for reduced comprehension in remote settings (articulation, altered vocal timbre)
  • Prevent vocal and physical fatigue and the sensation of oppression during inhalation by understanding vocal physiology (diaphragm/abdominal belt)
  • Master vocal projection and its inflections under any circumstances (presentations, lessons, negotiations), specifically for remote communication
  • Establish clear “rules of the game” for leading online meetings
  • Learn how to project the voice both sitting and standing, accounting for altered self-perception of the voice in remote settings
  • Define improvement axes for continued optimization of the voice after the training

Methodology:

  • Collect participant needs and perform an initial session with camera to assess physiological voice characteristics, vocal projection, intensity, etc.
  • Comprehensive theoretical presentation of what a voice is and what it communicates about you
  • Theoretical and practical presentation on voice and posture specifically for remote work, highlighting the causes of fatigue
  • Targeted exercises on breathing (abdominal, costo-diaphragmatic, intercostal) and identifying respiratory stress zones through posture exercises
  • Holistic understanding of the voice as a consequence of posture and breathing, analyzing cause-and-effect relationships between posture, subglottic pressure, vocal fold compression, etc.
  • Targeted diction exercises and mastery of speech rate
  • Remote public speaking exercises with headphones, with headset, without headset, with and without webcam
